Setting Your AC on a Timer Can Save Money!
You may have heard that turning your AC on and off uses more electricity than
keeping it set at the desired temperature and leaving it alone. Contrary to popular belief, this is false! Simply put, setting your AC on a timer can potentially lower your electric bill by up to 20%!
Many AC units have programmable thermostats; however, if yours doesn’t, you can purchase a plug-in timer at any hardware store for a few bucks. To start saving money, simply set your timer to turn off your AC unit when you leave your home (e.g. go to work), and to turn back on and begin cooling your home about 30 minutes before your estimated return.
You can save money and electricity at night, too. Set your timer to turn off about 30 minutes after you typically fall asleep, and then set it to turn back on right before you usually wake up. Putting your AC on a timer can reduce your electric bill and you won’t even know it was ever off!
