Energy Star Appliances
In an effort to reduce our nation’s dependence on non-renewable energy sources
that emit greenhouse gases, the U.S. Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency developed the Energy Star brand. All Energy Star products and appliances must meet strict efficiency regulations outlined by these government agencies.
Energy Star Appliances are designed to use less energy and water, lower consumers’ electric bills, and help protect the environment. These eco-friendly appliances use 10-50% less energy and water than regular models. Though Energy Star Appliances are more expensive than conventional appliances, they usually pay for themselves in a matter of years. In some cases, Energy Star Appliances can cut a home’s electric bill in half!
To incentivize Americans to "go green" in their home, the government provides a generous tax credit of 30% of any Energy Star Appliance purchase, up to $1,500. In 2010, the federal government is also offering a rebate program for Energy Star Appliances. Similar to last year’s "Cash for Clunkers," this energy-efficient rebate program allows consumers to trade in old home appliances for a rebate to buy greener, Energy Star Appliances. Energy Star Appliances will not only help you get a lower electric bill and save you money in the long run, they’ll also reduce your carbon footprint and help the environment!
